Our Story

The Art Behind the Flow
For over three decades, the founder of throwflow has devoted his life to Judo—a journey that has profoundly shaped not just his body, but his spirit.

While family responsibilities and physical constraints mean he can no longer frequently train on the mat, his commitment to the Judo community remains unbroken. Today, he channels that lifelong passion into guiding the next generation as a volunteer coach, teaching the discipline, respect, and grace of this martial art. Above all, he loves to show his students that Judo can be fun—a practice filled with joy, energy, and shared laughter.

Finding a New Voice
Words have never come easily to him. The quiet moments of focus on the mat, the profound lessons learned through struggle, and the vibrant, joyful energy of the sport are feelings that often live silently within him, struggling to find a voice.

That is where art became his language.

Discovering that a single brushstroke or a carefully drawn line could capture what conversation alone could not, he began to draw. Each piece in our collection is a visual meditation—a window into a lifetime of discipline, humility, and the dynamic beauty of martial arts, often brought to life with a lighthearted touch and a warm sense of humour.

Now, he wants to share that art with you—with the audiences who have connected with these works, who love what they see, and who carry a piece of that story home with them through every product in this shop.

A Piece of History
The images you see here carry a deep personal and historical significance. They capture the very first children's Judo sessions held in the UK, when our founder first moved here and settled. Moving to a new country can be daunting, but it was Judo that helped him adapt to a new society, build lasting connections, and truly feel at home—sending many thanks to Japan Arts Centre Judo.

Even in these early moments, you can see the core of his philosophy: that while technique is precise, the spirit of Judo is fundamentally alive, engaging, and fun. They represent the roots of his journey, the warmth of community, and the timeless joy of passing the torch to the next generation.

We hope that when you look at these works, you feel the same reverence, passion, and joy that have sustained him throughout his journey. Whether you are a practitioner yourself or simply appreciate the artistry of the martial way, there is a story here that speaks directly to the heart.
